Parasyte: The Grey is a new Korean horror series that will be available for streaming on Netflix starting from April 5, 2024. The series is based on the manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki and is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, who is known for the popular series Hellbound and the critically acclaimed movie Train to Busan.
The story follows a new ensemble of characters known as ‘Team Grey’, who are dedicated to combatting parasitic creatures. The main characters include Jeong Su-in, played by Jeon So-nee, who becomes a host to a parasite on her hand, leading to an unusual coexistence as the parasite fails in its attempt to seize control of her brain. Seol Kang-woo, played by Koo Kyo-hwan, is a man in search of his sister who was taken by a parasitic entity. Choi Jun-kyung, played by Lee Jung-hyun, is the team leader for the anti-parasitic life squad called ‘The Grey’, whose sole purpose is to eradicate parasitic entities, as she has lost her husband to one.
Other cast members include Kwon Hae-hyo as Kim Chul-min and Kim In-kwon as Kang Won-seok. The series is set in contemporary South Korea and promises to offer a unique interpretation of the popular manga, potentially making it one of the most intriguing live-action adaptations in years.
Parasyte: The Maxim is one of the best-written manga of all time. In 2014, the manga inspired a Japanese live-action film, which turned out to be a decent sci-fi flick. After a decade, Parasyte: The Grey, a new Korean drama, is attempting a second live-action adaption of Iwaaki Hitoshi’s successful manga.
From the creators of Train to Busan, the drama tells the story of parasites that fall from space and take over human bodies in order to survive. When a parasite fails to steal Jung Soo In’s brain, it seizes control over her hand, and life has never been the same since, forcing her to fight other parasites and find new ways to survive.
